Filled Products

There are two main types of fillings for duvets, pillows and mattress toppers.  One is a natural filling of down and feather  which gives the benefits of been lighter, and naturally breathable which allows for a better sleep for your body.  Natural fillings also last longer.  The higher the down content the better the quality of duvet due to softness and lightness.

Feather & Down Explained!

The quality of the natural duvets and pillows is all in the filling!!  Feathers & down are in themselves a unique product and have many natural qualities whilst also been organic.  By nature the feathers are made to protect their owner through the various weather stages and are there to repelthe water whilst absorbing moisture from the bodys flesh in order to regulate temperature.  This combined with the fact that they are non allergenic makes these the best option for a full, healthy and confident nights sleep.

The down do not have quills whereas the feathers do which makes this soft to touch and therefore to lay underneath and on top of.  The down on the bird sits under the birds feathers on its sides and chest and acts as a thermostatically padded jacket for the ultimate warmth and insulation.

The goose produces a larger feather which then in turn does not need as much filling to meet the tog rating which makes the duvets and pillows lighter, softer and more comfortable.

What is Boxed/Cassette Construction?

With a duvet either described as a boxed construcion or a cassette construcion this means that each square of the duvet has its own wall inside between the two fabric layers 1-2cm high approx.  This allows for movement of the feathers and sown within their own box/cassette and eliminates the problem of the filling collecting in one corner creating 'cold spots'.

Outer Covers

Duvets are manufactured using 100% cambric cotton outers which are to the highest standards ensures that the filling will stay within the fabric and the high thread count ensures that the natural duvets become a non allergenic product as there is no where for the mites to penetrate through due to the tight construction.

Man made fibres used in hollowfibre duvets, pillows and mattress toppers gives the softness and dependant on the quality of fibres used in the products the better the quality.

The NOMITE factor for Duvets & Pillows

The NOMITE mark is peace of mind for anyone who is allergic to the house dust mite.  The feathers and down used are not habitable places for such mites due to their thermal and climatic conditions.  The properties of this filling create a rapid heating up while the person is sleeping and a decrease in the bed's humidity - not a place for a dust mite!!

To conform to NOMITE standards the cotton cambric fabric must also be an extremely tight weave of at least 230 thread count.  The more threads the denser the fabric.  The very nature of a cambric weave means that there are very little gaps within the fabric.  The combination of the cambric weave and the high thread count ensure a fabric which cannot be penetrated by the mites.

NOMITE trust in the properties of a natural filled duvet and believe that everyone deserves to have a perfect nights sleep every night.  The NOMITE mark is there to reassure these allergy sufferers and prove them that they too deserve the best.

Bed Linen

Why Egyptian Cotton??

Egyptian cotton is renowned for being the finest quality you can buy as long as it is manufactured from the long staple fibres from Egypt which allow the bedding to be soft and durable.  The thread count is an important factor (the number of threads used in the length and width of the material)  It is understood that the higher the thrread count the better the quality and higher than 200 thread count is classed as luxury bedding.  Available at Jansons Direct Linens are the 200, 400, 550, 800 and the 1000 thread count.

Care of Egyptian Cotton Bedding

Wash separately from other materials - ie polyester as rougher materials may cause bobbling and pilling.  For tumble drying, dry until only just dry and immediately remove the bed sheets from the dryer and place them on your bed or fold for storage.  Do not 'over dry' your bed sheets and do not leave in the dryer for long periods after the drying cycle has finished.  If creases do appear in the bedding place a damp cloth in the dryer with the bedding and tumble for five minutes.
